Upon arriving at Rose Island, there's a short hike up stone stairs to the general meeting area. It was a truly a wonderful boat ride, enjoying the beautiful shades of water, with a wonderful sea breeze. The Captain narrates many interesting and fun facts about the area, which we all enjoyed hearing. The boat was comfortable, and took about 35 minutes there were approx. The entire staff seemed very well organized, and friendly. (They will schedule a pick-up at your hotel I believe it's a $5 charge.) We were staying at Harborside, so it was a short 5 minute walk for us. Their boat departs from the Paradise Island Ferry Terminal 10am. We we able to get the day we wanted, and was easy booking with them online. If only more people would take the time to do thisĪfter reading the excellent reviews, my husband and I decided to take the tour with Sandy Toes to Rose Island. To the trainer who took the time to talk and educate us, Thank you! You really did make our trip. Rose Island was beautiful! The staff were great, food was amazing and the beach and views are out of this world. The relationship this trainer had with his young pig was the highlight of our trip. These pigs are just like dogs and have such a strong relationship with there handlers. Most pigs have also been rescued from slaughter houses. They are taken in and out to protect them from the sun. These pigs are happy, healthy, well looked after and have the run of the island (Rose Island is home to a sanctuary of protected wildlife). He was more than happy to share his knowledge and story of the pigs with us. However, we were lucky enough to happen upon one of the trainers training one of the younger pigs. At first glimpse it’s almost painful to watch as these pigs are taken down to the beach and lured into the water with treats while we take pictures of them for social media. The pigs are taken down every half hour to entertain tourists. Instagram makes it look like these pigs are just out for a casual swim. I see a lot of hate regarding the pigs and how they are treated.
